Jose Rizal is known worldwide. He is dubbed "the greatest man of the brown race" among other things. Monuments to him have sprouted worldwide, from the U.S. to Germany, Canada, China, and Singapore. No other Filipino of his time has moved this many nations to offer monuments to him. He truly is the greatest Filipino that ever lived.

MacArthur Bridge,

One of the famous American generals of the Second World War. His name will forever be associated with the Philippines for helping rid the country of the Japanese invaders during the war. Douglas MacArthur's other nickname other than "American Caesar" was "Dugout Doug." He picked up this nickname during the battle for Bataan and Corregidor in early 1942. The soldiers under his command gave his nickname after they noticed he had a penchant for staying in the Malinta Tunnel rather than joining the soldiers in the frontlines. Either way, without him, it would been hard to liberate the Philippines. While every politician and military leaders in the United States thought about bypassing the Philippines and invading Formosa instead (present day Taiwan) MacArthur argued that it was America's "moral obligation" to free the Filipinos. Salamat, General MacArthur. Dahil sa iyo ang mga sumunod na generation ng mga Filipino hindi nila naranasan ang mga kalupitan noon ng mga sundalo ng Japan.

This place saw some of the most vicious combat between the Japanese and American/Filipino forces in World War 2. The Japanese made Intramuros an integral part of their defence of Manila in 1945, and it was severely damaged. There is the ever famous photograph of an American tank entering the Fort Santiago gate. This place needs to be preserved so that future generations of Filipinos cannot forget the suffering caused not only by the Spaniards, but by the Japanese. It is said during the campaign to recapture Manila from the Japanese in February and March of 1945, more than 100,000 Filipino civilians were murdered by the Japanese troops. Manila is along the same lines as Stalingrad in Russia during World War 2 that saw some of the most severe urban warfare throughout the entire war.
